About This House:

This “MCM Gem”, designed by architect Joe Michels, is truly a “one of a kind masterpiece” in both it’s form and it’s function! Built into a sloped lot, the large living / dining windows and the expansive lower level family room windows provide views beyond compare. The current owners have created a modernist landscape that allows privacy and a true connection to natural beauty and movement, as the aspen and the karl foerster grasses sway with the wind. The lawn has been graded flat and the corten steel retaining walls create space for yard games, TaiChi classes, music venues and peaceful outdoor gatherings.

The interior opens to vaulted redwood ceilings, clerestory windows and open connected spaces, filled with natural light. Large room sizes provide flexible use for entertaining , yet the scale remains intimate for everyday living. One bedroom / one bathroom on each level, plenty of storage, activity/ mudroom, concrete patio spaces, a screened porch and two car detached (also redwood) garage, in this “walkable-to-everything” neighborhood, make this home a once in a lifetime opportunity!

About Docomomo US/MN Series of Going, Going, Gone! Tours:

Docomomo US/MN seeks to highlight Mid-Century Modern properties across Minnesota as they become available for sale, or may be threatened by demolition. The Going, Going, Gone! series of home tours are pop-up events that attempt to connect sensitive modernist properties with good stewards for the next generation  of preservation and adaptation. If you are the owner of a midcentury home , a real estate agent or neighbor of a notable property – please let us know if there is a site that should be included on a future tour, or added to the MN Modern Registry!
