The Legacy of Evelyn and Jerome Ackerman:Docomomo US/MN honors Mid-Century Modern design legends Evelyn and Jerome Ackerman with a dynamic series of Spring 2025 events.
Featuring presentations, a film screening, and a book launch – with special insights from their daughter, Laura Ackerman-Shaw – these events celebrate over 50 years of innovative design in textiles, ceramics, and beyond. In partnership with the Goldstein Museum of Design and Textile Center, these events offer engaging talks, and opportunities for design enthusiasts to explore a timeless legacy. About Evelyn and Jerome Ackerman:Evelyn and Jerome Ackerman were prolific artists and designers central to the development of California Mid-Century Modern design. Over their five-decade career, the Ackermans’ produced an extraordinary range of work – including textiles, mosaics, ceramics, woodcarvings, and metalwork – that combined a modernist sensibility with artisanal craftsmanship. Their accessible designs found favor with interior designers, architects, and the broader public, reflecting their fine arts and studio craft training.

About Laura Ackerman-Shaw:
Laura Ackerman-Shaw earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English literature from Stanford University. After more than 35 years in publishing as a director of design, editorial, production, and translations, she founded Ackerman Modern to steward her parents’ design legacy through exhibitions, programs, publications, and licensing. She has presented widely – including at Modernism Week and UCLA – authored numerous articles, and serves on the advisory board for the Manitoga / Russell Wright Design Center.
Laura Ackerman-Shaw is excited to release her new book, Evelyn and Jerome Ackerman: California Mid-Century Designers (Pointed Leaf Press), which explores the Ackermans’ unique contributions to post-war American design. Featuring essays by leading design historians and curators, the book includes never-before-seen drawings, photographs, and archival materials that chronicle the Ackermans’ remarkable partnership and enduring influence.
