Join Docomomo US/MN for a look inside this amazing home on the shores of Lake Cornelia in Edina, built in 1960 by the firm of Shifflet, Backstrom, Hutchison & Dickey. Fans of Minnesota mid-century architecture will recognize design elements form other Arthur Dickey projects, as he was a prolific architect in (and longtime resident and booster of) the city of Edina. About the Architect: Arthur DickeyActive in Minnesota from 1952 through the 1990's, Arthur Dickey was a prolific architect and helped shape Midwest Modernism through designs for schools, private homes, religious spaces, office and retail buildings, including the Friedman House (above).

About This House:Large house with fieldstone faced triple garage facing street; windows and sun-screens to rear overlooking Lake Cornelia (105 feet of shoreline on 0.7-acre lot). The entry is flanked by interesting, colored glass rectangular windows set into the fieldstone. Lots of original woodwork, tile and stone remain on the interior.
The grand entry showcases original brick, paneling as well as stonework. The owner's suite includes a large dressing closet with lake views and deck access. Large formal dining, library & living room. The walk-out lower has entertaining area, a wet bar with wood panels sourced from Malaysia as well as a self-contained unit complete with a kitchenette, living area, bedroom, and private bath.
